Community members are important stakeholders in Sustainable Development: Mr. Nitin Shiralkar

The thought of Sustainable Development has always inspired the Adani Group and Adani Foundation's actions. This is a difficult task that requires intense engagement with the community.

At Adani Power Maharashtra Limited’s Tirora site, we began CSR activities in four main verticals, namely Education, Health, Sustainable Livelihood Development and Rural Infrastructure Development. The first thing that our team did was to identify issues of the community through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) process. The next step was to implement need-based initiatives.

With the help of concerned Government departments, we chalked out a comprehensive plan for creating sustainable livelihoods for unemployed farmers. This included initiatives like the introduction of Organic System of Rice Intensification (SRI), Cow-based Livelihood (Vermicompost, biogas, organic pesticide, and other products), Water Conservation Work, Livestock Development Centres for Dairy Development and Lac Production. We also provided training to farmers in 26 villages and facilitated them in taking up these livelihoods.

To harness the potential of women of the community, we facilitated them in forming Self Help Groups (SHGs) and trained them in the activities like making Lac Bangles, Mushroom cultivation, Agarbatti Making, etc. Today, these women’s smiles speak volumes about their joy in becoming self-reliant. On the skill training front, the Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC) began operating in 2017 offering courses in two trades – Assisstant Electrician Course and Welding Technician. In 2017-18, 234 tribal students were trained and placed in reputable industries. This year, the General Duty Assisstant Course was introduced for female students. We also held a pre-recruitment training for Army & Police aspirants.

I am proud to say that due to the CSR team’s efforts, the community members participated actively in all the project-related training, activities and camps, motivational workshops, awareness and education enhancement programmes. Our special projects like Swachhagraha have also received an overwhelming response. Today, we have reached out to a population of 1,30,972 spread across 64 villages. Our CSR team has changed the perception of the people. With people’s appreciation driving us, we are striving to improve the lives of more and more people, day by day!
